Intercessory

The Intercessory Ministry is a team of believers committed to praying for the church, its leaders, families, communities and nations. It reflects one of VBCI’s core values: we value praying regularly.

What Intercession Means

To intercede is to stand before God on behalf of someone else. The apostle Paul urged “that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority” (1 Timothy 2:1–2). Intercessors take this seriously, bringing the needs of others to the Lord with faith and persistence.

What the Intercessory Ministry Does

  • Prays for the church – services, pastors, ministries and special programmes.
  • Carries prayer requests – lifting up the needs that members and visitors share with the church.
  • Prays for leaders and nations – in line with our belief that Christians should offer constant prayer for those in authority.
  • Stands with families – praying for marriages, children, health, work and salvation of loved ones.

Why Prayer Comes First

A praying church is a strong church. Prayer keeps us dependent on God, sensitive to the Holy Spirit and united with one another. It prepares the ground for evangelism, strengthens those who are struggling and invites God’s presence into every part of church life. Qualities of an Intercessor

Intercession is open to every believer, not only to a special few. What matters most is a willing heart: faithfulness to keep praying when answers take time, humility to pray for others more than for ourselves, and discretion to keep what people share in confidence. Intercessors also pray with Scripture, letting God’s promises shape their requests.

How to Get Involved

You can join the prayer team at your local congregation – find one on our branches page. You can also submit a prayer request or ask for a prayer mate who will pray with you regularly.
