The Ushering Ministry is often the first face people see when they walk into a VBCI church. Ushers welcome, guide and care for worshippers so that everyone can settle in and meet with God.
The First Welcome
A warm greeting at the door can shape a visitor’s whole experience of church. Many people arrive nervous, unsure where to sit or what will happen next. Ushers help them feel expected and valued. As the story of our church puts it, you will find that at VBCI “you are really very important because you are that important to God.” The Ushering Ministry puts that into action every service.
What Ushers Do
- Greet and seat – welcoming members and visitors and helping them find a seat.
- Maintain order – keeping aisles clear and helping the service run smoothly and safely.
- Assist during worship – supporting offerings, communion and altar ministry when needed.
- Care for needs – helping parents with children, elderly members and anyone who needs assistance.
A Biblical Ministry of Service
The psalmist said, “I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness” (Psalm 84:10). Serving at the door of God’s house is an honour. Ushering reflects VBCI’s values of service and commitment to excellence, and it offers a simple, practical way for many believers to begin serving.
What Makes a Good Usher
A friendly smile, reliability, patience and attentiveness matter more than experience. Ushers learn to notice people – the first-time visitor looking around, the parent with a restless toddler, the elderly member who needs a hand. Training is usually provided by the local team.
